Timing is everything

Have you ever picked up a book at just the right time in your life?  Well, that’s what happened to me when I picked up Lisa Hendey’s Handbook for Catholic Moms.  The first few chapters spoke to me in a way that made me feel like God had actually put the book in my hands.

You see, when my kids were preschoolers and I was newer to parenting, I sought out lots of information, support and advice about my overwhelming vocation from books, support groups, prayer groups, Bunco groups, book groups.  (I like groups, ok?)  But, as my children have grown and my confidence and experience grew, I let a lot of those support systems fall by the wayside.  It took me a while to realize how much I missed all those groups and books.  Picking up and reading Lisa’s book gave me exactly what I needed to hear when I needed to hear it.

The subtitle of the book is “Nurturing the Heart, Mind, Body and Soul”.  In the book Lisa discusses each of those areas in depth, gives resources to support mothers and even assigns “homework”.  Her book reminded me of the importance of taking care of my needs as a mom so that I can then take care of my family.

I can’t guarantee that her book will speak to you the same way it did to me.  After all, timing is everything.  But, if you are a Catholic mom looking for support in your vocation, I think you will get something out of this book that will possibly strengthen you, your faith, your marriage and your family.

Blessings,
Laura

  1. I love this book and the author! I wish I had the book in earlier parenting years. It's a great gift to me and a great gift for my daughters-in-law.

  2. I agree Nancy! Lisa Hendey is a gift to Catholic mothers. I wish I had discovered her when my own children were babies.
